Pokemon LeafGreen is one of two games produced by Nintendo in 2004, along with Pokemon FireRed, as a remake of the popular Pokemon Red and Blue games. The game is produced by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance console. The game was officially introduced to the Japanese audience for the first time in January 2004.

Keeping the familiar gameplay that made the series' trademarks, LeafGreen players will control their characters from an overhead perspective and engage in turn-based battles. Your mission throughout the game is to collect, nurture, and evolve Pokemon to use in battle. The game adds several new features, including a contextual help menu and many new areas on the map system. At the end of its life, LeafGreen showed many positive signs commercially, as the game sold a total of more than 12 million copies worldwide.

Plot

The vast fictional land of Kanto is a place where Pokemon live in harmony with humans. At the beginning of the game, the player will meet Professor Oak, a famous Pokémon researcher. He'll walk you through everything about the Pokemon world in detail, including how to catch Pokemon, train them, and use them in battles to defeat the best trainers. You'll then learn how to use the Pokedex, a high-tech encyclopedia that records the entries of any captured Pokemon, and in turn, challenge Gym Leaders for Gym Badges. Collecting all eight of these badges will qualify players for the Pokemon League, a tournament that includes the best Pokemon trainers in the region.

The second plot of the game involves you fighting the criminal organization Team Rocket. This organization devises many schemes to steal rare Pokemon to abuse them for evil purposes. To thwart Team Rocket's plan, you'll have to simultaneously do two missions, meet and defeat Team Rocket's boss, Giovanni, and recover two artifacts, Ruby and Sapphire, and put them on the main computer on One Island to rescue kidnapped Pokemon.

Gameplay

LeafGreen provides a top-down third-person perspective for you to observe the battles of the Pokemon conveniently. Each Pokemon will use turn-based skills, and each skill the Pokemon uses will consume one of its PP points. If the PP score is 0, the Pokemon will lose the ability to use the skill until the PP bar is restored. Besides, the HP index of the Pokemon is also something that players need to pay attention to. This stat will decrease in proportion to the amount of damage your Pokemon takes when attacked by an opponent. If the HP score is 0, the Pokemon will faint and can't fight anymore. They will be recovered at a particular area in the game. If you make your opponent's Pokemon faint, the battle will be over, and you will be the winner. The reward for the winning trainer will be experience points for Pokemon, helping them to level up and evolve.

LeafGreen is the remake of Blue, and it adds some notable features to improve the player experience. The game adds a contextual tutorial feature, allowing the player to look up data at any point in the process. It also allows players to connect with other versions, including Ruby and Sapphire and the Colosseum, to help players collect, trade, or battle Pokemon in other versions. Thanks to that, you can collect up to 350 Pokemon in the game.
