Metroid Fusion is the second-to-last game in the fictional Metroid universe. The plot revolves around bounty hunter Samus Aran, who is dispatched by the Galactic Federation to help Biologic Space Laboratories in their explorations of the planet SR388, which Samus had cleansed of Metroids in the last part of the franchise. She becomes infected by a hitherto unrecorded gelatinous lifeform while defending the scientists from the local fauna and subsequently passes out while operating her gunship. The parasite has spread throughout her body and her biomechanical Power Suit, and the scientists have tried unsuccessfully to remove pieces of the diseased suit surgically. In a last-ditch effort, the scientists inject Samus with a serum containing preserved Metroid DNA, which kills the parasite while also curing Samus.

Samus is sent to the B.S.L space station to investigate an explosion, now wearing significantly modified armor. There, she discovers that the station is teeming with species afflicted with more gelatinous lifeforms, now dubbed X Parasites, which can infect a host body and take control of its central nervous system, allowing the X to govern the host body. The X Parasites can become a perfect replica of that host, complete with the infected person's memories. Because Samus now has Metroid DNA, she can absorb additional X Parasites. To stop the spread of the infection, Samus must work her way across the station, guided by the Artificial Intelligence of her new gunship, and eliminate the X Parasites and their host bodies. However, among them is the SA-X, a clone created from the remains of her Power Suit and equipped with all of her weapons and powers.

The game is renowned for having a far more in-depth narrative than earlier games, with political and business intrigue and character interaction. As a result, players can enjoy the thrill and thrill of uncovering the mystery behind the plot while immersing themselves in eye-catching battles with Samus Aran.
