Super Mario Bros was first released in 1985 by Nintendo and was designed specifically for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) console. The game inherits the gameplay of its predecessor Mario Bros 1983, and kicks off the Super Mario series. Joining the game, you will control Mario or his brother Luigi on an exciting adventure to the Mushroom Kingdom to rescue Princess Toadstool from the evil King Koopa, Bowser. Make your way through challenging journeys in each level by dodging dangerous enemy attacks and terrain obstacles with the help of power-ups like Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, and Starman.

The Plot

Mushroom Kingdom is a land that has existed for a long time and where the Mushrooms live in peace. One day, the Koopa Army, a tribe of turtle-like creatures, invaded the beautiful Mushroom Kingdom and jeopardized the lives of all Mushroom People. They used the magic of its king, Bowser, to turn the entire Mushroom Mantle into inanimate objects such as bricks, stones, and horsehair. Under such circumstances, Princess Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom is the people's last hope with her ability to reverse the evil Bowser's spell.

Unfortunately, Princess Toadstool was kidnapped by the Koopa Army. You will control Mario, overcome many different challenges of the game, and fight many powerful enemies of Bowser, to rescue the princess and all the people of the Mushroom Kingdom. Your mission is to infiltrate Bowser's last stronghold and defeat him by smashing the ax into the bridge suspended over the lava he is standing on and breaking it.

Gameplay

Control Mario through difficult terrain and dangerous enemies to reach the flagpole at the end of the road to pass each level in the game. Along the way, try collecting as many coins as possible and look out for special bricks marked with question marks. These bricks can reveal more coins or rare items to increase Mario's abilities, making it easier for him to overcome obstacles.

Players only have a certain number of lives to use in a level. Collect more lives to increase Mario's survivability by picking up 1 blue-spotted orange mushroom hidden in bricks or collecting 100 coins. Every time Mario takes damage as a child, falls into a bottomless pit, or runs out of time, he loses a life. If you use up all of Mario's life, the level will end, and you can start Mario's journey from the most recent level.

You can take advantage of rare items to increase Mario's fighting ability. Eating Super Mushroom will double Mario's size, turning him into Super Mario and easily breaking bricks above him. While in Super Mario form, he will not die when attacked by an opponent, but instead, he will return to his normal form. Besides, collecting Fire Flowers scattered along the way will turn Mario into Fire Mario, giving him a special power: throw bouncing fireballs from his hand to quickly destroy obstacles and opponents.

Mario's most powerful mode is called Star Mario. To achieve this mode, you need to collect Starman, hidden in invisible bricks. The Star Mario state makes him almost immortal, almost nothing can harm him, and he will kill enemies instantly after touching the opponent. However, the time to activate Star Mario is limited, and you need to make the most of this ability.

The world of Super Mario Bros is divided into 8 different worlds with diverse challenges for players to explore. Some of the game's levels include underwater challenges with unique enemies. In addition, the game has secret areas, often containing more coins or the addition of vertical pipes, which help Mario Mario advance to worlds later in the game without completing the alternating stages.
